The group formed in 2007, and has taken advantage of the growing popularity of a cappella music from breakout groups like Pentatonix and movies like Pitch Perfect 2.\u00a0 Their members live throughout the area and have diverse musical backgrounds, with many having sung in vocal groups in college or with other organizations. He has been singing with Second Shift since March 2023. David&#8217;s musical background includes singing with Colorado College&#8217;s mixed acapella group Room 46, community choirs in Chapel Hill, Beijing, and Yangon, and the occasional KTV. Theo has been singing with Second Shift\u00a0since October of 2019. Theo\u2019s musical background includes two years of high school a cappella and barbershop quartets, four years as part of Ketzev A Cappella at Johns Hopkins University, and years of random unprompted beatboxing. She has been singing with Second Shift\u00a0since January 2007 (barring a six-month gap). Jessica&#8217;s musical background includes a musical family and a cappella in high school, college, and beyond. She&#8217;s been singing with Second Shift since February of 2025.\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Rachel<\/span>&#8216;s musical background includes many years of musical\u00a0theater and choral singing, a degree in commercial vocal performance, and singing with &amp; music directing The Beltones at Belmont University from 2010-2013. She has been singing with Second Shift since June of 2017. Amitha&#8217;s musical background includes singing a cappella for six years with Saint Louis University&#8217;s Beyond All Reason and Duke&#8217;s Something Borrowed Something Blue, playing any instrument she can get her hands on, and always harmonizing to the radio. When not singing, Amitha enjoys all things Harry Potter, playing volleyball, and guessing the endings of shows and movies. After doing his share of high school choir and musical theater, Corey continued playing intimate venues such as the car, the shower, and various karaoke bars before joining Second Shift during its first year. Thanks to his time in the group he&#8217;s had the chance to learn vocal arranging, a bit of vocal percussion, and all the classic a cappella dance moves. An alumnus of The Doo-Wop Shop from UMass Amherst, Jason is a professor of Communication at Durham Tech. He earned his PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication from UNC Chapel Hill in 2010. Kristin grew up singing in school choirs and musicals, sang with Soulstice while attending Virginia Tech, and was an original member of the Triangle-based vocal band Cognitive Resonance. When not singing, Kristin enjoys puzzles (especially jigsaw and nonograms), reading, and silly dance parties with her kids. When not singing, Ellie enjoys salsa dancing, geocaching and painting.
